CAED_ Ingenuity on Display at Cal Poly's Open House

More than 7,000 new students, parents, alumni and community members visited campus to celebrate Cal Poly's 22nd Open House on April 16-18. The annual campus showcase provides attendees an opportunity to explore and experience first-hand the Learn by Doing philosophy.

ARCE Sandcastle Competition

ARCE_ Sandcastle Competition Helps Local Students Learn About Architectural Engineering

This spring, Cal Poly students organized a series of lessons culminated in a beach day where five student teams designed and built sandcastles. The Sandcastle Competition is a fun way to apply lessons lerned in the classroom to a Learn by Doing experience.

ARCH_ Cal Poly's LA Metro Program Director Earns National Creative Achievement Award 

Cal Poly Associate Professor Stephen Phillips received the Creative Achievement Award at the 103rd Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ASCA) Annual Meeting in Toronto. This award recognizes a specific creative achievement in teaching, design, scholarship, research, or service that advances architectural education.

CRP_ Cal Poly Professor Michael Boswell Working with U.N. Habitat Committee on Cities and Climate Change

City & Regional Planning Professor, Michael R. Boswell was selected to participate in Guidelines for City Climate Action Plans, sponsored by U.N.-Habitat, a United Nations program designed to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements and adequate shelter for all. The meeting took place in Oslo, Norway, in conjunction with the U.N.-Habitat 2015 Cities and Climate Change Initiative advisory committee meeting.

CM_Construction Management Students Win Top Honors at Regional Competition​

Cal Poly construction management students earned top honors at the Associated Schools of Construction Competition (ASC) in Reno, Nev. held earlier this month. Seven out of 12 Cal Poly teams placed.

On March 19-21, Cal Poly's Landscape Architecture Department was proud to host LAbash 2015. LAbash is an annual North American landscape architecture student conference that fosters connection and education of the young landscape architecture community.

Giving to the CAED

Students in the ARCH 241 - Architectural Technology Fundamentals class display their custom-designed and handmade bricks. With the support of WRNS Architects in San Francisco, the class traveled to Pacific Clay in Lake Elsinore to make the bricks, after firing, they were shipped up to Cal Poly.
