Information on specific requirements for a change of major or a double major into any of the programs within the College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) is available at the CAED Advising Center in Bldg. 05, Room 221 and at the proposed department office.

Majors in the CAED are over subscribed, therefore, completion of requirements for a given major does not guarantee admission into that program.

Students on Academic Probation will not be considered for a change of major.

The departments within the CAED review change of major or double major applications according to the following schedule:

Architecture: Fall, Spring quarters

Architectural Engineering: Fall, Winter, Spring quarters

City & Regional Planning: Fall, Winter, Spring quarters

Construction Management: Fall, Winter, Spring quarters

Landscape Architecture: Winter, Spring quarters

To apply for a change of major into the Architecture, City & Regional Planning or Landscape Architecture programs, you will need to submit the materials listed below, plus any department-specific required materials, to Ellen Notermann in the CAED Advising Center, Bldg. 05, Room 221, by the end of the 5th week of the quarter in which you are applying.

To apply for a change of major into the Architectural Engineering program, you will need to submit the materials listed below, plus any department-specific materials, to the department office in Bldg. 21, Room 110A, before the last week of the quarter in which you are applying.

To apply for a change of major into the Construction Management program you will need to submit the following application materials, plus any department-specific required materials, to the department office in Bldg. 21, Room 116, by the second week of the quarter in which you are applying.

  1. Petition to Change or Double Major – pick up at the Office of Academic Records.
  2. Transcripts of college work other than that completed at Cal Poly.
  3. Copy of Cal Poly evaluation of transfer and AP Exam credit for your present major, if appropriate.
  4. Unofficial Cal Poly transcript, including currently enrolled courses.
  5. A statement that identifies your prior personal experience and career goals related to the proposed change of major. (See appropriate department policy and procedures for specific statement requirements.)
  6. Additional department-specific requirements. (See appropriate department policy and procedures.)
