General Fund
CAED STUDENT AND FACULTY RESEARCH
The Evelyn and Harold Hay Fund is established principally to support
student and faculty research projects at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in the
College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED). The fund is coordinated
through the Office of the Dean, CAED, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
CAED STUDENT
SCHOLARSHIPS
Harold Hay has a strong interest in supporting student work in the application
and integration of environmental and sustainable design principles. To this
end, the College of Architecture and Environmental Design would like to
invite current students enrolled in the College to apply for awards in the
amount of $250 and $500 to be distributed from the funds made available
to the College by the Evelyn and Harold Hay fund.
Each year the number of awards given will be determined by the amount
available. This year, in 2000-2001, $1000 has been allocated from the Hay
Funds (i.e. two awards @ $500 or one award at $500 and two at $250). The
award recipients will be recognized at the annual CAED Awards Reception held in May. This is
a wonderful opportunity for students to show their work in sustainable design.
Applications may be picked up from the CAED
Receptionist (05-212).
Interdisciplinary
Fund
An interdisciplinary fund of $100,000 was established for joint activities
between CAED and other colleges at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. In particular,
the funds are designated to support research projects initiated by faculty in CAED
who require the assistance of expertise from the College of Business, College of Engineering,
and College of Agriculture. Proposals are sought that provide interdisciplinary scientific
and engineering consultation that supports the architectural implementation of water
and solar energy systems in buildings including but not limited to solar
stills, solar hot water, evaporative cooling, and roof pond systems. The
fund is coordinated through the Office of the Dean, CAED, Cal Poly, San
Luis Obispo.
Intercampus Funds
Funding has been provided to the Renewable Energy Institute at Cal Poly
State University, San Luis Obispo, California to offer grants to members
of the
Society of Building Science Educators for applied research in passive
solar energy, natural thermal control and water conservation in buildings.
Proposals are sought that will demonstrate the regional applicability of
thermal concepts based on current research topics specified by the Fund
or that will venture into new areas of research related to the general goals
of the Fund. All projects funded are expected to contribute to the development
of practical and economical solutions that will lead to the reduction of
current energy consumption demands by buildings and their occupants. This
program is coordinated through Margot McDonald, AIA, co-director, Renewable Energy
Institute at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

solar energy and water conservation in the built environment, see the EHHF/SBSE Program.
