Scholarships and Internships 2017/2018

The following scholarships reflect only those administrated directly through the CAED. Each department has additional scholarships that they administer. To see a list of these scholarships, click on the appropriate Department Scholarships link to the right. The number of scholarships listed are based on previous year amounts. Final awards may vary for 2017/18.

Submit your completed application to the CAED Dean's Office by 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2017.

Castagna Architectural Scholarship

Award: 10 at $15,000 each

Eligibility:

  • Architecture or Architectural Engineering majors only
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Must have completed their first full year as an undergraduate architecture or architectural engineering major in good standing, or be an architectural graduate student who has already completed their undergraduate degree in architecture or in a major acceptable to the graduate program
  • Preference for those with low income as determined by FAFSA application
  • One-page recommendation from at least one faculty member or adviser attesting to the applicant’s commitment and potential in the field of architecture or architectural engineering. Please Provide a faculty member with this link.
  • One-page personal statement describing background, educational and career goals. Statement should also address how this scholarship will make a difference in the applicant's life and career. (Space for this essay/statement is on the scholarship application above).
  • NOTE: Student must maintain good academic standing during 2017-18 or face revocation of funds

Selection Process: The CAED Scholarship Committee, under the direction of the Associate Dean, will select the recipients from among the qualified applicants. 

Recipient's Responsibility: 

Upon Receipt of Scholarship Funds: Letter of appreciation to the donor sent to the CAED Dean's Office at caed@calpoly.edu or 05-212 front desk.

End of Spring Quarter 2018: The awardee will submit a one page personal statement to the CAED Associate Dean detailing their success during the preceding academic year and how the scholarship supported their success.

Robin L. Rossi Award

This award is to assist worthy students in time of personal need OR to reward students demonstrating exceptional effort. Students from all CAED disciplines are eligible for consideration based on effort and talent not necessarily directly associated with traditional measures of academic achievement. Potential for future success as demonstrated though such criteria as innovation, creative problem solving, overcoming difficult or unexpected circumstances, supporting fellow students, and entrepreneurship may be considered in the selection of students.

Awards: 2-6 [Estimated at over $1500 each]

Eligibility:

  • All majors in the CAED
  • Demonstrated outstanding worthiness

Selection Process: The CAED Scholarship Committee, under the direction of the Associate Dean, will select the recipients from among the qualified applicants.

Herbert Collins Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through a generous endowment to the university in honor of Julian A. McPhee, the first president of Cal Poly.

Awards: 12-18 [Estimated at over $1000 each] 

Eligibility:

  • All majors in the CAED
  • Junior, senior, or graduate students in 17/18 academic year
  • Financial need optional
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA
  • Demonstrated outstanding worthiness

Selection Process: The CAED Scholarship Committee, under the direction of the Associate Dean, will select the recipients from among the qualified applicants.

Recipient's Responsibility: Letter of appreciation to the donor with a copy to the CAED Dean's Office.

Harold and Evelyn Hay Award for Environmental and Sustainable Design

Awards: 2 at $1350  

Eligibility:

  • Major: Open
  • Class level: Open
  • To recognize students with interest in solar design
  • Requires essay as to applicant efforts toward solar research, energy resiliency or sustainability in applican’ts degree program, on campus or in community.

Alice C. Loh Scholarship

Award: 1  [Estimated at $500]

Eligibility:

  • Architecture or Landscape Architecture majors
  • Must currently be enrolled in 4th year courses in either major, with the scholarship available for 5th year study
  • Scholarship will be awarded to the student with the highest GPA as determined by a combination of current Cal Poly GPA (60%) and Architecture or Landscape Architecture prefix design courses GPA (40%) that includes all third year and fourth year fall and winter quarter design courses.

Selection Process: The Associate Dean will determine the recipient from eligible students. No application necessary.

Recipient's Responsibility: Letter of appreciation to the donor sent to the CAED Dean's Office at caed@calpoly.edu or 05-212 front desk.

R.L. Graves Jr Scholarship

Award: 1  [Estimated at $750]

Eligibility:

  • 3.0 Cal Poly Cumulative GPA
  • Must be participating in Danish International Study Program
  • Financial need (optional)
  • Recipient will be among top ranked applicants as determined by the architecture scholarship committee
