Instructional Student Assistants [ISAs] for EDES 123

Overview

EDES 123 Instructional Teaching Assistants [ISAs]

Faculty: Ellen Burke/LARC, Michael Lucas/ARCH, Jennifer Shields/ARCH

CAED Graduate students, fourth year CRP, CM, and ARCE students, and fifth year ARCH and LARC students of the College of Architecture & Environmental Design are encouraged to apply for this unique mentorship/teaching/learning opportunity. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in graduate school and/or post-graduate teaching. CAED students are preferred, but students from non-CAED majors may submit a supplementary statement of why they should be considered [graduate student with applicable undergraduate degree, for instance].

In 2015-16 the former EDES 101 became the new EDES 123, and now counts as GE area D4. It will be offered again in Fall 2016, Winter 2017, and Spring 2017 quarters. This is one of our few interdisciplinary experiences, and was redesigned as a lecture and discussion sections. The discussion section will incorporate weekly Learn-by-Doing assignments to be completed within eight ISA mentored interdisciplinary learning communities of approximately 20 -25 students.

Each of these eight learning communities needs a motivated, passionate, and CAED experienced Instructional Student Assistant [ISA] / Mentor to implement student explorations extending from weekly lecture content. Training for reinforcing lecture content in each weekly exercise, rubrics for exercise outcomes, and other support for each exploration will be provided weekly for the ISAs by the lead faculty teaching that week.

Qualifications:

  • CAED Graduate students, 4th year CRP, ARCE, or CM students, or 5th year LA or ARCH students preferred.
  • Prior work experience and/or teaching experience is a plus.

Pay Rate:
The pay is $13.50/hour
6 to 8 hours of work per week [approximately $900-1100 per quarter]
